01

Surface wear can be a straightforward job

Sound tile with shallow staining or worn joints may suit careful rake-out and regrouting. The joints need enough depth for the new material to bond.

02

Cracks need a cause

Repeated cracking, hollow tile and movement can point to a weak background. Corners may need flexible sanitary sealant rather than another rigid grout line.

03

Wet areas deserve a wider check

Soft board, loose tile or persistent damp behind a shower cannot be solved with a cosmetic joint. The affected area may need opening, drying and correct waterproof repair.

What to remember

Regrout only stable tile. Movement and wet damage need repair below the visible joint.
